In the event, Google took curtains off from their first self-driving car called Waymo. Waymo is already spotted many times on the streets of Phoneix, Arizona (also officially launching later this year) and completed 6 million miles on the public road which is a clear signal towards the future of self-driving cars. The day is not so far when we call for a taxi and a self-driving car came to our home and drop us to our destination.
Waymo CEO John Krafcik took the stage in the Google I/O event and gave a clear message that “our cars can see further, perceive better, and make snap decisions faster than anyone else.” And deep machine learning understands everyone’s behavior on the road and react accordingly. The company saying they had reduced error rate by 100 times through machine learning. The neural network uses a vision system and lidar system to measure shape and distance of objects and radar system to measure the speed. By applying AI to all these data Waymo can accurately detect pedestrians in all forms in real-time.
Watch this 360 degree of Waymo driving on the public road. It will give you a much clearer idea of how it all works.
