The Auto Expo is an annual automotive show held in Pragati Maiden and Greater Noida, India. Originally Auto Expo debut in 1986 started by prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. Automotive Component Manufacturers Association, Confederation of Indian Industry and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers jointly organize the event. Basically, this event is for all the companies to showcase their latest and coming vehicle and technology offerings to the Indian Automotive Industry in the upcoming year. There are lots of vehicle showcases in the show. Some are the actual production unit vehicle which will hit the market in near future. This show gives you an idea what to expect from your favorite companies. From these many showcased vehicles we have shortlisted our Top 10 Auto Expo 2018 Car Launches list.
10. Honda Amaze
New Honda’s second generation compact sedan Honda Amaze showcased in the show. The car is based on all new platform but some of the features are derived from its premium siblings. Amaze got its all-new front design.
Like the design language, which they carry from the premium sedans like city, civic and accord which is a very positive move and which gives the car a very futuristic look. And the back portion of the car gets new C-shape tail lamps. New lip spoiler and shark fin antenna are also welcoming in the new Amaze.
The wheelbase also increases from R14 to R15 which also increases space inside the cabin. Rear seat passengers also get better leg room. All new cabin layout gives it more premium feel with dual tone finished and piano black finish materials in the dash.
For infotainment system, it has 7-inch touchscreen display seen earlier in the new city and WR-V. In addition first time it also gets Cruise control. And all the other high tech features which you can see in its bigger siblings.
What more new is the engine. It has 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine which gives 88PS and 109Nm of peak torque. And a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine which gives 100PS and 200Nm of peak torque. Both the variants come with 5-speed manual transmission. It also becomes the first car from Honda to come with CVT diesel engine. It will stand up against Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, VW Ameo, Tata’s Tigor and Zest and also the Ford Figo Aspire.
9. Tata Tiago And Tigor JTP
Tata tied up with Jayem a Coimbatore based Automotive company to give a performance base boost and sportier looks to their existing cars. With the JTP (Jayem Tata Performance) tag company launches their first boosted car version of Tiago and Tigor JTP.
In terms of design don’t expect to see any drastic changes. But there are few changes which are present in the cars i.e, new fog lamp housing, blacked out headlamps, spoiler bumpers with larger air intakes and rear roof spoiler on Tiago. Both the cars have 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. And also lower the ground clearance to 161 mm for both the vehicles.
Inside the cabin, you’ll see most the look feels similar and loaded with all the equipment as like their older versions. Dual tone red and black color over AC vents, red color stitching over gear lever and steering wheels give it sportier feel more inside as well. For the infotainment system, it comes with 8 Harman Kardon speakers but Tiago still lacks the 5-inch touch screen which is present in Tigor.
One of the major changes comes with JTP is performance. It’s turbo charge 1.2 L three-cylinder revotron petrol engine delivers 109 bhp and 150 Nm of peak torque which is a significant bump over the current engines. Its direct competition is going to be with Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and Ford Figo S. And for the Tigor, it going to be the most powerful compact sedan petrol.
8. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Most popular and hatchback segment leader Maruti Suzuki launched its 3rd generation Swift in Auto Expo 2018. There is a whole lot of expectation from this car to perform as their precious versions did. Previously Swift so much resembles from the Dzire but not this time.
Maruti Suzuki puts Swift new design language. It is based on Heartect platform which makes the new Swift lighter by 40kg and 40mm wider, 20mm longer wheelbase and 24mm more headroom. Newly designed bumper, LED projector headlamps, LED day running lights and low roofline gives it Mini Cooper like aesthetics. There are a few newer changes in the cars rear profile. It has new round shape LED tail lamps with new designed rear bumpers.
On the inside, you’ll see all the major visual changes. Unlike Dzire which has dual-tone finish in its cabin. With the Swift, they choose to go with all black cabin which feels very sporty with the rounded AC vents and speedometers.
For infotainment it has 7-inch touchscreen display supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well. In terms of safety features, it’s not behind either. It has dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, and Isofix child seat mounts.
New Swift uses the unchanged engine from the previous generation. It has 1.2 L 3 cylinder petrol engine which delivers 83hp and 113Nm of peak torque. And 1.3-L Fiat-sourced diesel which delivers 75hp and 190Nm of peak torque. For transmission, both variants come with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT as well.
7. Hyundai Elite i20 Facelift
The South Korean carmaker has a good market presence in India. To continue to hold their spot they launched a second generation Facelift version of Elite i20. Hyundai continues its Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy with Elite i20 with making design tweaks in the front bumper with new grille design inspired from its newer siblings. Halogen projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs and multi-reflector halogen fog lamps also get a new addition to the car.
Most of the major changes in the rear profile. It gets a newer graphics designed LED tail lamps and the rear bumper is also newly designed as like the new Facelift Xcent. The license plate is now shifted from the latter to the former which gives the car a new design language from the rear as well.
On the inside, the car added some new features carried from the new Verna. Dual-tone color cabin and the Asta variant gets the all-black color cabin which gives car sportier look. 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Hyundai iblue Android-based remote and Arkamys sounds and also gets Hyundai Auto Link support.
There are also no major changes beneath the hood. Elite i20 2018 gets the same 1.2-litre Dual VTVT Kappa petrol which gives 83bhp and 113Nm of peak torque with 5-speed manual gearbox. And a 1.4-litre U2 CRDI diesel 89bhp and 219Nm of peak torque with 6-speed manual gearbox. A 1.2 petrol CVT Automatic version is expecting to launch in future. It will be going to compete with Baleno, Polo and New Jazz 2018.
6. Honda CR-V
Honda’s most popular and premium SUV CR-V newer version launched after a long wait. Precious CR-V performed very well in the Indian market. Honda wants to continue and gain a better position between the existing competition with their newer CR-V 2018.
Cars front gets the thick chrome bar grille which you can see in most of the Honda cars with the flanked by LED headlights which are complemented by the LED fog lamps that sit flush within the bumpers. Cars rear profile also get updated with the L-shape LED crystal tail lamps which looks a little similar to the new Accord. Chrome strip at the bottom and lip spoiler gives the car a sportier profile. Its 18-inch diamond shaped alloy wheel finished in chrome and black gives car better wheelbase.
For the first time, Honda is also offering 3 row seats on CR-V. In terms of features, there is 7-inch touchscreen display with a navigation system which also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity which is standard now these days. Front seats get 4-way power adjusting, dual-zone climate control, one-touch power moonroof and many.
For performance, this 5th generation CR-V comes with 2.4 L 4-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 188PS and 226Nm of peak torque. And also offers 6-speed manual and 9-speed ZF Automatic transmission. And 1.6 L 4-cylinder twin-turbocharged diesel engine which delivers 160PS and 350Nm of peak torque. There is also All Wheel Drive option is available. This 2018 CR-V is all set to stand against Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Ford Endeavour, and Isuzu MU-X.
5. Tata H5X
This year in Auto Expo 2018, Tata becomes the show stopper with its unique and beautiful car design showcased. One of the cars which impresses the most is Tata H5X which its 80% of the design showcased in the show will hit the market very soon.
It’s a new OMEGA impact Design 2.0 architecture derive from the Land Rover Discovery Sport. It’s coupe-like floating and sloping roof, chunky and muscular bumper and newly designed grille give it an appealing look. Its headlamps and daylight running lights are seated over the grille which looks like a single unit.
The rear profile of the car looks futuristic and grabs everyone’s attention. Fancy LED tail lamps which creates unique graphics visual and its dual-tone rear bumper features same chunky looks as like front.
There is no much information about the interiors as of now.
In terms of performance, it has Fiat’s rebranded 2.0 L MultiJet diesel engine with a 6-speed manual and 9-speed ZF auto transmission. It will come with 2 seating variants i.e, 5 seaters and 7 seaters. Powers are also tuned as per the seating i.e, 140hp for 5 seaters and 170hp for 7 seaters. It’s expected to launch against Jeep Compass, XUV 500 and others in the same segment.
4. Honda Civic
Honda Civic was the leader of the D-segment before they pull off in 2013. Now they are making their comeback with the 10th generation Civic which originally unveiled in 2015 and has been on sale since 2016. There is always a lot of expectation in this segment cars and undoubtedly new Civic delivers.
The front profile of the car is redesigned with the thick chrome bar which is the latest design language Honda is using in all of their cars. It’s low-slung design, bold character lines, stylish LED headlamps, LED day running lights and low bonnet line gives it very sporty looks all over. Things become more interesting when you look at the redesigned rear portion of the car. There is nice fastback-like look at the rear with the C-pillar flowing into the tailgate.
As expected from this segment of car, it comes with all the top-notch features inside the cabin. It has a dual-tone black and beige theme with a 5-inch touchscreen display comes to support with HondaLink with 160 watts of the speaker to make your ride more fun.
In terms of performance, it is expected to has 1.5 turbocharged petrol engine which delivers 170PS and 220Nm of peak torque. In a welcome addition, Honda is offering 1.6-liter i-DTEC engine which delivers 120PS and 300Nm of peak torque borrowed from Honda CR-V. It will stand against its segment rivals Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis, and the Skoda Octavia.
3. Toyota Yaris
Toyota showcased its most awaited mid-size sedan car Yaris which was launched in the Thai market in August 2017. Its design aesthetic is inspired by the Toyota Corolla Altis and Camry with the large air dam. And a sleek grille flanked by upward-sweeping halogen projector headlamps and day running LEDs below the headlamps.
Cars rear profile looks elegant with the rounded LED tail lamps and the integrated lip spoiler. The car lacks a little bit in terms of dimensions comparing to its competition cars i.e, its wheelbase is 100 mm smaller than the Ciaz.
As with all the Toyota premium cars, it also comes with all the top features. A dual-tone color theme in the cabin, 7-inch infotainment system, electric driver’s seat, roof mounted AC unit with ambient lighting, rear sunshade, etc.
Toyota cars had an image as being the safest car manufacturer. Yaris stands right in place with safety features like 7-airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, vehicle stability control and hill-start assist, ABS with EBD and brake assist, all-four disc brakes and Isofix child seat anchors.
In terms of performance, Yaris will come with 1.5 petrol engine with 105 hp. And also a 1.5 petrol hybrid engine which will also get available in the future. But currently, there is no diesel engine option is available. For transmission, they are offering 6-speed manual and 7-speed CVT. It will be against the mid-size cars like Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
2. Mahindra G4 Rexton
Mahindra showcased premium SUV in the Auto Expo 2018 Ssangyong G4 Rexton with the badge of Mahindra. This Rexton has good value in the international market known for its style, quality, and safety. Ssangyong was already in the Indian market but unable to make their presence.
So, apart from the making a lot of investment they hold hands with Mahindra as they already had good value with their SUVs. Rexton also gets some visual changes comparing to its international version. It gets the Mahindra’s signature grille as like the XUV 500. It is expecting to launch over XUV 500 with the renamed as XUV 700 but no clear words for this as of now.
In terms of features, it comes loaded as like original Rexton. LED projector headlamps, LED day running lights, electric sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated seats, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS and navigation support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Rexton is well known for its safety features as this Mahindra rebrand named one as well. It has 9 airbags, ABS, EDB, ESP and Hill descent control and could also come with traction control and cruise control.
In terms of performance, it will be powered by a 2.2 L 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine which delivers 170PS and 420Nm of peak torque. For transmission, it comes with 7-speed automatic gearbox. It will up against the premium SUV leaders Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
1. Kia Stinger GT
Kia is a South Korean carmaker showcased 17 cars this year in Auto Expo 2018 but the car which grabs the attention of everyone was Stinger GT. This is Kia’s flagship sports sedan which is expected to come to the Indian market very soon.
Its design language is carried from the GT concept shown in Frankfurt Motor Show 2011. Its rounded shape LED headlamps with a little bottom curve towards the bumper, LED day running lights stretched towards like tiger noise grille bumper. The front bumper features a wide air dam in the center and vertical air intakes on both sides. Cars hood also features two air vents on either side. For the rear profile, Stinger GT features a quad-exhaust setup on the rear diffuser along with LED taillights bridged with a reflector strip which gives it a very sporty look.
On the inside, the car gives a very sporty feel with its all black theme cabin. There is an 8-inch touchscreen display with satellite navigation along with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and with a 15-speaker audio setup from Harman/Kardon Audio system. There is also one 7” TFT screen instrument cluster is available.
As being sports sedan safety is considered as key features which much needed and the Stinger GT didn’t compromise at all. For safety features car holds airbags, ABS, ESC, hill-start assist, and autonomous emergency braking and many others.
In the performance department, Kia offers 3 engine options i.e, 2.0 L turbo petrol delivers 244bhp and 353Nm of peak torque. 2.2 L turbo diesel engine delivers 197bhp and 440Nm of peak torque and one which is showcased in the show is 3.3 L twin-turbo V6 petrol engine delivers 365bhp and 510Nm of peak torque. Stinger GT is able to hit 100 kph mark in just 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 270kph. The car is direct will stand up against German trio BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class, and Audi A4.
